The Oquirrh Mountain Symphony (OMS) presents “Spotlight Spectacular Encore” on Friday, May 21st, at Elk Ridge Middle School (3659 W. 9800 S.) at 7:30pm. The performance will feature the winners of the RMO’s 6th Annual Concerto Competition: Whitney Pizza (piano), Brenden McQuay (tuba), David Horton (piano) and Alexis Ericksen (violin). Refreshments will be served immediately following the performance.





Contest Guidelines

Eligibility

Singers and instrumentalists of all ages, divided into four categories by age as of January 1st of the contest year.

  1. Youth – age 12 and under
  2. Junior – age 13-16
  3. Senior – age 17-20
  4. Open – age 21 and over

Date and Location

The contest will be held Saturday, January 22nd, 2011, at various locations in the southern Salt Lake Valley. Individual contestants will be assigned a specific time and location for performance, based on their performance category.

Repertoire

Music SheetContestants should prepare a single movement from a concerto, aria from an opera or oratorio, or other standard solo with orchestral accompaniment. Orchestral scores and parts must be readily available through standard commercial sources, and free from performance restrictions. (If you have any questions about the suitability of your contest repertoire, contact us about it before entering the contest. Failure to meet these criteria is grounds for disqualification, and the entry fee is non-refundable.) Please note that “Broadway” or “Pops” selections do not generally meet the above guidelines.

Contest Performance

Each contestant will be allowed a maximum of eight minutes to perform, and should make necessary cuts to fit the allotted time. There will be a piano available for accompanists, but contestants must provide their own accompanist. They may also choose to perform unaccompanied. There is no memorization requirement.

Competition Entry

Each contestant must submit a complete entry which consists of:

  1. Entry Form – Completed and signed entry form.
  2. Entry Fee – $35.00, by personal check or money order, made payable to the Oquirrh Mountain Symphony. This fee is non-refundable.
  3. Headshot – A photo of the contestant. (B&W 8x10 is the preferred format. Any size larger than wallet size is fine).
  4. Résumé – Please attach a résumé or a short biographical sketch.

Deadlines:

Entries must be postmarked by Monday, January 10th, 2011 for timely consideration. Contestants will be notified by Email of contest time slots no later than Tuesday, January 18th, 2011. Late entries received through January 21st, 2011, will be considered and may be accepted based on contest time-slot availability. Late entries will incur an additional $10.00 Late Fee.
