Community atmosphere mingles with regional music talent to meet Utah music-lover’s dream: a full-blown symphony in a smaller city – without financially burdening the already stretched municipal budgets.

The Oquirrh Mountain Symphony (OMS) presents “Spotlight Spectacular Encore” on Friday, May 21st, at Elk Ridge Middle School (3659 W. 9800 S.) at 7:30pm. The performance will feature the winners of the RMO’s 6th Annual Concerto Competition: Whitney Pizza (piano), Brenden McQuay (tuba), David Horton (piano) and Alexis Ericksen (violin). Refreshments will be served immediately following the performance.

David Horton

David Horton is a fifteen-year-old from Salt Lake City, Utah. He began his piano studies with Hana Janatova at age six. Currently he is studying with Dr. Heather Conner.

David’s accomplishments include winning first place in the 2010 Riverton Metropolitan Orchestra Concerto Competition, first place in the 2009 Interlochen Concerto Competition, first place in the 2008 SummerArts Concerto Competition at the University of Utah, the Ironman Award at the 2008 University of Utah Summer Arts competition, and first place in the 2007 Rocky Ridge Music Center Concerto Competition. David was also a prize-winner at the UMTA Concerto Competition (2010), the Utah State Fair (2007) and the Summer Piano Competition at Dayne’s Music (2006). He has soloed with the Interlochen Philharmonic, the University of Utah Wind Ensemble, and the Rocky Ridge Faculty Orchestra in Colorado. He has also performed in the Salt Lake Main Library, the Sorenson Unity Center, and the Assembly Hall at Temple Square.

In his free time David enjoys biking, skiing and playing with his dog Cinder.
