Community atmosphere mingles with regional music talent to meet Utah music-lover’s dream: a full-blown symphony in a smaller city – without financially burdening the already stretched municipal budgets.

The Oquirrh Mountain Symphony (OMS) presents “Spotlight Spectacular Encore” on Friday, May 21st, at Elk Ridge Middle School (3659 W. 9800 S.) at 7:30pm. The performance will feature the winners of the RMO’s 6th Annual Concerto Competition: Whitney Pizza (piano), Brenden McQuay (tuba), David Horton (piano) and Alexis Ericksen (violin). Refreshments will be served immediately following the performance.

Karen Ferry

Karen Lela Ferry, age eight, has been studying violin for five years as a student of Deborah Moench. Karen has received five superior ratings on violin and two on piano from the National Federation of Music Clubs. She has participated in the Intermountain Suzuki String Institute for many years and has performed in numerous solo and group concerts at Libby Gardner Hall, the Assembly Hall and in Suzuki Celebration Concerts in the LDS Conference Center. Along with her family, Karen has been featured on concerts in the Box Elder County Tabernacle, the Salt Lake City Recital Hall and on BYU’s concert series. Together she has also provided musical entertainment for such worthy causes as Brigham City’s Meals on Wheels and at the Governor’s Mansion for the Utah State Legislative Spouses.

Karen is a member of the Rocky Mountain Strings, a group of 45 young violinists from along the Wasatch front which concertizes extensively and performs school outreach concerts. Karen is a home-schooled third grader and is the youngest of the seven children of Ben and Meg Ferry of West Corinne, Utah. In addition to violin, Karen enjoys making Easy-Bake cakes, swimming, piano, tap, ballet and bottle-feeding the orphaned calves on her family farm.
